21 Valentine’s Date Outfit Ideas for Girls

Valentine’s Day is almost here and you’re probably stressing about what to wear. I know how you feel, girl, you want to look cute but also want to be able to breathe! Clothing options can be overwhelming.

Don’t worry, though. Choosing an outfit doesn’t have to be difficult. Whether your plans are fancy or just Netflix and chill, there’s something out there for you.

Before you go shopping, think about where you’re actually going. An ultra-glamorous look will be awkward if you’re only grabbing coffee, and jeans at a nice restaurant will make you feel out of place. That’s honestly the most important thing to consider.

Also, make sure you wear something you feel confident in. If you hate heels, don’t wear heels just because you think you should. Same thing goes for whatever else you choose to wear—if you don’t feel good in it, you’ll spend the whole date self-conscious. Nobody wants that!

White Turtleneck Knit Sweater and Red Button-Down Midi Skirt

Best of both worlds: cute for Valentine’s Day but not overly cute where you feel like everyones staring at you.

Grab a fitted white turtleneck and pair it with a red midi skirt. You know, the ones that stop right above your knees? This combo is amazing because you’ll look put together but also be comfortable AF.

White and red together is such a clean look. It’s classic and pretty without being over-done. The best part? You can wear this to get chic at dinner or just meet up with your crush at Starbucks. It works for any setting.

Don’t be afraid to throw on some heart accessories! But please don’t go over-board. Some tiny heart stud earrings or maybe a necklace with a small heart pendant? That way you’re festive, but not screaming “Valentine’s Day” down the sidewalk.

Throw on a tan coat or maybe a cropped jacket if it’s chilly outside. That way you won’t freeze your butt off, and people can still see your cute outfit underneath. Trust me, it’ll make a difference and you’ll be sooo comfortable instead of trying to tough out the cold.

Black Long-Sleeve Crewneck Top with a Silver Sequin Mini Skirt

Love a good statement outfit? This is so you.

Pair a basic black crewneck top with a silver sequin mini skirt. It’s the perfect combination of casual and dressy for dinner and maybe a dance floor afterwards. The simple top allows the skirt to be the center of attention, and a red purse will tie in the Valentine’s vibe without going overboard.

Statement sunglasses are optional, but they’re actually perfect for dates that start during the day and go late into the night. They also give you that mysterious look all girls love. If you’re worried about being cold, add some sheer black tights and a cropped jacket you can remove when you’re indoors. Problem solved!

Pink Tweed Cropped Jacket and Matching Mini Skirt with a White Scoop-Neck Crop Top

I love tweed sets for Valentine’s Day, plus you can really wear them for other occasions too—not just yummy dinners.

The matching jacket and skirt combo looks so put together without it being OVERLY formal—which is ideal if you’re nervous but don’t want to look like you’re going to a business meeting.

Tweed also has such a nice texture that it feels glamorous even if the lighting isn’t the best. It also photographs really well, which you know you’ll be doing all night at dinner. Bonus: if the restaurant is cold (and they always are) the jacket actually keeps you warm instead of just hanging in your arms.

Wear nude heels instead of black. Nude makes your legs look longer which is ALWAYS good. Trust. And keep jewelry simple. Tweed has so much going on with the texture and mixture of solids/patterns. A simple necklace will do the trick. You don’t want too many accessories otherwise it’ll start looking busy.

Yellow Long-Sleeve Ruched Mini Dress and Tan Strappy Sandals

Heart print is adorable for Valentine’s because it lets everyone know that you’re cute and not taking the day too seriously.

Those ruffles also flatter most body types because they add shape and texture. Pair with simple sandals so you won’t be tormented with sore feet—trust me, you’ll want to sit in those sandal if you’re walking around or standing a lot (looking at you cool art museums).

If you’ll be staying late or it gets chilly, pair with a cropped denim jacket. This way it won’t cover up the entire dress but you can still cover up the cold. Try to find a dress with some stretch to it so you can move comfortably when you talk and reach for things. Comfort is key!

Wine-Red Strapless Corset-Style Mini Dress with a Faux-Leather Trim

Need an outfit that’ll make your date notice you when you walk into the restaurant? Or maybe you’re feeling extra confident and want your outfit to match? I would go with this gorgeous wine-red dress. The deep burgundy will look great on most skin tones, and it’s way more fancy than your typical Valentine’s Day red dress.

Add some sheer black tights if it’s chilly outside. This also softens the look a little if you’ll be dining at a more conservative restaurant. Another bonus? The corset gives you natural support, so you won’t spend your whole dinner pulling down your dress.

White Polka-Dot V-Neck Ruffled Blouse with a White Knit Cardigan and High-Waisted Blue Jeans

Polka dots are playful and cute without being over-done. Throw on a dotted blouse under a cardigan or soft knit sweater and you’ve got yourself some balance—and warmth if the restaurant decides to blast the AC.

High-waisted jeans complete the look and keeps it chic yet practical. Denim is perfect if you’ll be walking to/from different spots or just want an easy outfit to throw on.

If wearing ankle boots, try rolling your jeans down at the ankle to show off your boots. Also, darker wash jeans work better for night dates but darker wash jeans look amazing too if that’s more your style. You do you girl!

Mauve Glitter Ribbed Bodycon Mini Dress

Sparkle is always in style on Valentine’s Day and you don’t have to try hard to make this look work.

The soft purple color seems to look good on everyone and the glitter is gorgeous when it hits the light as you move around.

Keep shoes simple and go for black because it will make your legs look longer and keep all the attention on your dress. No one likes uncomfortable heels while trying to have a good time.

Throw on a cropped faux fur jacket or fitted blazer if it’s cold outside. You’ll stay warm but still show off your cute outfit.

*PRO-TIP* Make sure the inside of the dress is not made out of some itchy fabric. Some glitter material can be so harsh on bare skin and trust me, that isn’t something you want to worry about all night.

Red Sleeveless Bodycon Maxi Dress

If you don’t want to spend forever thinking of the perfect Valentine’s outfit, THIS dress is for you.

It’s cute as heck but doesn’t require tons of effort. The bright red catches everyone’s eye and the bodycon style is flattering on pretty much every girl. *Bonus: It’s also extremely versatile and can be dressed up or down depending on the material. *

Find one that has some stretch if you’re planning on going to dinner because let me tell you, it’ll change your life. Pair with a simple gold necklace and some nude heels and you’re good to go. That way your outfit is still the focal point, but won’t look too overdressed if your date happens to choose a nicer place.

Black Halter-Neck Crop Top with a Pink Pleated Mini Skirt

Girl, this outfit is JACKPOT. You’re getting both cute and tough all at once.

Pair a black halter-neck crop top with a pink pleated mini skirt. Perfect for Valentine’s dinner when you don’t want to break too much of a sweat.

Love how your shoulders and collarbones look showing off with the halter neck? The pleats on this skirt are so pretty when you walk because they flow so much. This look is great for both a nice dinner setting or even a chill bar afterwards. You just never know where the night may lead.

If it’s cold outside pair with some opaque black tights. They’ll keep you warm without distracting from your cute outfit. Keep jewelry minimal and stick with gold. You don’t want your outfit to look too childish with too much bling.

Similar shirts and skirts can be found at your local Forever 21, H&M or Target. They normally have these type of basics year round so you’d be good even if you waited till the last minute! Talk about an easy Valentine’s Day look that doesn’t break the bank.

Need to run to Target before your date? Done. Decide last minute that you’re meeting up for coffee instead of a fancy dinner? Still good. The cardigan will keep you warm because let’s be real, it’s always chilly in February and jeans will allow you to sit comfortably through dinner and not have to worry about tight clothing.

Pro-tip: Wear a basic black/vague tank top under your cardigan. If the restaurant turns up the heat you can always take your sweater off and still look like you put in some effort.

The best part? These cardigans show up at Target and H&M around late January. They typically cost under $30 so you don’t have to sweat the prices either. *Just don’t sleep on it too long because the cute ones will sell out quickly. *

White Long-Sleeve Crew-Neck Mini Dress

This dress is sweet as can be but still fun and flirty.

You won’t have to worry about “trying too hard” either, and that’s what makes this dress so fabulous. It does all the work for you. The straight lines of the dress make you look taller and the shorter hemline adds some playfulness.

Add some gold jewelry to bring some warmth to the all white dress. If it’s cold outside (because it is cold in February) grab a cute blazer to throw on over your shoulders. It won’t ruin your whole “effortless” look.

Stores like COS and Reformation always have great ones that you could literally wear to work and head to your Valentine’s date. Just switch up your accessories and you’re good to go. That’s what I love about this dress—you’ll get so much use out of it after Valentine’s!

White Heart-Print Oversized Knit Sweater with a Tiered Pink Tulle Midi Skirt

Want to look festive but not completely stuffed full of hearts and pink roses? Boom. You got it.

Your whole body will be swaying from the tulle layers and it looks absolutely amazing when you’re moving around—oh yeah, you’re definitely taking videos and photos at dinner.

Just don’t choose a super poofy tulle skirt unless you plan on wearing a fitted sweater with it. It creates some symmetry so you don’t look too bulky. Try to find a knit sweater with small hearts on it rather than big clumps of hearts all over. That way you can wear the sweater by itself later during the winter and won’t look like you’re trying to hard.

It’s the perfect balance of sweet and easy to recreate. Your friends will be asking you where you got that skirt from because trust me, tulle looks incredible on camera and in real life.

Black Velvet Puff-Sleeve Mini Dress

Remember that black velvet mini dress in the back of your closet? Dust it off becauseValentine’s Day year is it’s time to shine.

The material is so soft and it gives off such a vintage/vixen look. It’s glamorous without trying too hard.

Another thing I love about this dress is you don’t have to stress if your plans are super upscale. It’s cute enough for a nice dinner, but not so overdressed that you’ll feel under-dressed if your date suggests Starbucks. The darker color also hides a lot—if you spill some marinara sauce no one will notice.

Pair some tights under if it gets chilly later in the night. The mini-skirt style really pops with tights on too and you’ll stay warm without ruining your outfit.

Diamonds are cute, but keep jewelry minimal with something small that rests near your neck line. You don’t want to add too much jewelry because the texture of the velvet is fancy enough on it’s own. Too much will just make your outfit look cluttered.

Purchase little to worry about what you’re wearing and actually enjoy your Valentine’s date!

Red and White Striped Off-the-Shoulder Cropped Sweater with Ripped Wide-Leg Blue Jeans

If you want something cute but not too dressy for your Valentines date, look no further! If you have a striped shirt and a nice pair of jeans, you’re already half-way there. The outfit is playful without being TOO cute, and you won’t feel underdressed if your date wants to go somewhere casual.

Stripes are playful, but denim is also very relaxed. That makes for the perfect balance – you’re dressy enough to go get fancy dinner, but comfortable enough to stroll around or sit at a café for hours.

My favorite styling hack? Roll up the cuff of your jeans a little. It just looks more polished, and it literally takes seconds. Throw on a simple necklace too. Maybe something with a small pendant. Keep the necklace simple though, you don’t want to overwhelm your shirt with too many patterns.

The best part about this outfit? You might not even have to buy anything! Most people own jeans and a striped shirt. When buying jeans though, always remember to buy them by how they fit at your waist. Fit is way more important than if they’re the trendy bleach wash that everyone is wearing currently. Invest in the fit, and always trust your instinct on what look best on you!

Hot Pink Sleeveless Backless Maxi Dress with Ruched Detailing

Okay this dress is a great idea if you have some type of perfect Valentine’s Day moment planned. Hot pink is such a mood booster color, and a backless dress is JUST SEXY ENOUGH to feel cute without going overboard.

I love this dress for when girls want to feel extra special for dinner or drinks. Maybe you’re tired of wearing boring office clothes all week and just wanna embrace your feminine side! You will feel fabulous.

But if you’re worried about February weather, you can even throw on a cropped faux fur jacket. Easy to take off once you’re inside where it’s warm.

PRO TIP – Always keep some silicone tape on you when wearing backless dresses. No one wants their boobs falling out of place when you least expect it. Wear the tape under your boobs and you won’t have to stress about anything slipping. Trust me, you’ll feel more at ease the entire night knowing this little hack! Your dress will also still look amazing

Pink Long-Sleeve Mock-Neck Top with Tan High-Waisted Cargo Trousers

Speaking of feeling feminine…this outfit is the sweet and sporty vibe all wrapped into one. It’s great for Valentines Day, but you could also wear it any other time too. The bright pink top is feminine and the cargo pants are relaxed and comfy – ideal if you’re not sure if you’ll be going somewhere nice or just hanging out at a bowling alley.

Try pinching in the front of your mock-neck and tucking it into your pants, but leave the back portion out. It’ll accent your waist while keeping the look somewhat relaxed. Pro tip – thrift stores are AMAZING if you’re looking for mock-necks! You can usually find awesome ones for super cheap, and in fun colors that no one else will have.

Speaking of those high-waisted cargo pants…pants are honestly my favorite part about this look. They’re so comfortable and functional. But they also balance out your girly top SO WELL that you don’t look like you’re trying too hard.

White Heart-Print Oversized Knit Sweater with a Black Mini Skirt and Sheer Tights

Maybe you have a Valentine’s café date? You want to look cute but you don’t want to try too hard. Heartprint sweater + jeans or a basic skirt is such an easy outfit. It gives off that cozy-flirty vibes as you’re drinking your lattes. If you’re worried the hearts will be too cutesy for you, throw a blazer or leather jacket on top. Then you can always take it off when you get to your seat.

PRO TIP – Rather than looking for a red heart sweater, try to find hearts in neutral colors. White, cream, grey, stuff like that. The hearts will be less overpowering and it’s more wearable. You can find sweaters like this pretty much anywhere during this time of the year.

Another tip – layer, layer, layer. I can’t stress this enough when it comes to café dates. It’s either freezing inside or namespaces blast the heat. You don’t want to be uncomfortable your entire date because you didn’t dress appropriately. Make sure you have a jacket you can easily take on and off!

Pearl-Embellished Pink Heart Sweater with a Pleated Pink Mini Skirt and Plush Faux-Fur Boots

This outfit would be sweet for Valentines night dinner at your favorite restaurant. It’s still very comfy thanks to the pink pleated skirt. The hearts with pearls are adorable but not over-done. The skirt itself has enough room to it that you won’t feel too confined while you sit and chat with your dinner date.

If it’s cold where you live, the cute fur boots will keep your feet warm. They also downplay the dressiness if you’re worried you may be over-doing it.

PRO TIP – If you’re in between sizes on that sweater, go with the bigger size. You’ll be able to tuck the front into your skirt which looks super cute and will also accent your waist. Not to mention it gives off that effortless chill vibe we’re going for anyways.

White Square-Neck Romper with Pocket Details

Rompers are cute but also provide A LOT of comfort. Love the square neckline on this one – it’s flattering and you can move around in it. Whether you’re going to a nice dinner or just cruising around after.

Sheer shoes are also a great option. They make your outfit look extra dressed up but your feet won’t kill like they would with regular heels. Considering you’ll probably be sitting down for most of the night, that’s a definite plus.

If you get chilly you can always throw on a cropped cardigan or denim jacket. Cardigan won’t cover up that cute neckline either!

PRO TIP – Try and find a romper that has some sort of stretch to the fabric. That way you won’t constantly be pulling down your romper or adjusting it all night. Trust me, you don’t want to be annoying yourself with your clothes when you should be enjoying yourself on a date!

Red Off-the-Shoulder Long-Sleeve Top with Black Flare Trousers and Red Bow Heels

This look is basically ideal if you’re going somewhere nice. It’s dressy, but not stuffy. The off-the-shoulder top is also fun and cute. It adds a little sexy vibe, but not TOO much. You know?

Black flare pants are awesome because they make your legs look longer. And hey, you can walk in these babies which is important if you’re going to dinner then somewhere else afterwards. A lot of my girlfriends love this look when they want to look good but not like they’re crawling out of a nightclub. It also photographs really well if you’re doing cute V-Day themed pics.

If it’s chilly, grab a short black jacket. You can wear it until you get to your location then throw it on your chair. And as with the last top, try and opt for a top that has some stretch to it so you aren’t constantly pulling it up as you eat. Nobody likes that!

Keep Up with Mia
